Learning the affiliate marketing basics takes time. The most important step in affiliate marketing is learning how to own keyword research. It will save time, money, and frustration and generate the traffic marketers’ need.
Individuals trying to learn how to become successful affiliate marketers are introduced to the principle of keyword research from the very beginning. The general idea is to find keywords, or keyword phrases that have a high volume of traffic and a small volume of competition. Using the keyword tool provided by Google is the next step. The keyword tool is free and it will reveal the number of searches, or traffic as well as rate the competition. What people do is enter their keyword and focus on whether the competition is low, medium or high, and if it says low or medium, he or she believes that it is a great keyword. Unfortunately, this is a poor strategy and is not explained well within the realm of affiliate marketing basics.
This is why it is essential for serious marketers, or people who are serious about affiliate marketing, to invest in keyword research software. Software will take words and phrases derived from free tools and analyze them further. It is paramount to take the analysis process further. Referring back to the example of how people focus on low or medium competition, people overlook the actual amount of traffic. It should be a minimum of 100 global monthly searches. That would average 3.3 searches per day. It takes more than three visitors per day to make money online. This minimum amount of searches is part of the affiliate marketing basics. In reality, to generate a full time income online, a website needs 1,000 visitors per day. Look for keywords with a minimum of 1,000 global monthly searches. That would increase traffic to potentially 33 visits per day. Now, it can still take 30 keywords to increase traffic to 1,000 visitors per day, but it is feasible and must be done.
As part of the affiliate marketing basics, a person is also introduced to the time-money balance. If a person has time, they do not have money, if a person has money, they do not have time. This is another reason people get hung up on poor keywords. It takes time to find 30 profitable keywords. It has to be done and for those who can afford outsourcing, keyword research is never to be outsourced! Day one, brainstorm and find a minimum of 10 keywords. Remember, the keyword must have a minimum of 1,000 global monthly searches and the competition must be medium, low is best. Create one piece of quality content for each of those keywords. Content can be articles/blog posts, videos, eBooks, whatever a person is best at creating should be his or her start point. With these numbers in mind, find the first 10 keywords and start building upon the affiliate marketing basics. Divide the target of 30 profitable keywords in to thirds and focus on one set of ten keywords at a time. Taking keywords one step further will be covered in Step Two.
